MONOCHROME - TAKING A LINE FOR A WALK
This body of work explores the boundaries of minimalism and the profound impact of simplicity.
Inspired by Bauhaus teacher Paul Klee, my pieces delve into the essential and minimalistic approach to drawing, reflecting Klee’s philosophy about the line: “It goes out for a walk, so to speak, aimlessly for the sake of the walk,” and “An active line on a walk, moving freely, without a goal. A walk for a walk's sake. The mobility agent is a point, shifting its position forward.”
In this series, a single colour dominates each piece, revealing its contrasts and nuances through the intricate dance of lines. My work plays with the properties of line—its flow, its interruptions, and its journey through space. Each line is an exploration, a walk that invites viewers to consider where it might be taking them, both visually and emotionally.
The monochromatic palette serves to strip away distractions, focusing the viewer’s attention on the movement and character of the line itself. This minimalistic approach allows for a deeper appreciation of the subtleties within a single hue, much like Klee’s emphasis on the journey of a line rather than its destination.
By embracing the monochrome, I aim to create a visual language that speaks to the simplicity and purity of form.
Each piece in this collection challenges the viewer to see beyond the surface, to explore the layers of meaning and emotion embedded within the line’s path.
The result is a contemplative experience, where the simplicity of a single colour and the elegance of a line can evoke a multitude of interpretations and feelings
.
“Monochrome - Taking A line for a walk” body of work offers a fresh perspective on minimalism and the power of the monochrome aesthetic.
Through this body of work I hope to invite viewers on a journey of visual exploration, where the line is both the guide and the destination.
