FLOW

The Flow explores the space where calligraphy and movement converge, transforming writing into a visual language of rhythm, gesture, and presence. Inspired by the psychological concept of flow—a state of complete immersion where awareness of time and space dissolves—the series captures the energy of movement as it unfolds across the surface.

My relationship with calligraphy developed through a journey across cultures. I was first introduced to calligraphy as a student in Serbia, later studied Balinese Sanskrit in Indonesia, and deepened my practice in Palestine through Diwani, a style of Arabic calligraphy celebrated for its elegance, harmony, and fluidity. These experiences shaped my understanding of calligraphy not merely as a form of writing, but as a spiritual architecture—an expression of inner rhythm, discipline, and presence.

In FLOW, I move beyond the conventional function of calligraphy and explore its potential as an embodied experience. Drawing from both calligraphic practice and dance, the works emerge through intuitive hand movements that translate gesture into line. Writing becomes movement, and movement becomes mark-making.

The series is also informed by East Asian aesthetics, particularly the appreciation of simplicity, restraint, and effortless execution. Through abstraction, I seek to distill the essence of both dance and calligraphy, reducing form while preserving a recognizable sense of motion and the memory of written language.

Within these compositions, letters lose their fixed boundaries and become fluid, organic forms. Like water currents, they carry the eye through the work, creating a sense of continuous movement and transformation. FLOW invites viewers into a contemplative space where body, gesture, and mark exist as one uninterrupted act.
