Fragments of thought, traces of feeling. Writing transformed into gesture.

WRITTEN BETWEEN THE LINES

This early body of work marks the beginning of my exploration of line as a vehicle for expression. Inspired by handwriting, calligraphy, and the intimate act of writing, these paintings investigate the space between language and abstraction, where words gradually dissolve into gesture, rhythm, and emotion.

Built through layers of translucent colour, marks, and handwritten fragments, each composition carries traces of thoughts, memories, and personal reflections. While the calligraphic forms suggest text, they are not intended to be read in a literal sense. Instead, they function as visual echoes—capturing mood, movement, and the emotional residue of experience.

The interplay between revealing and concealing creates an open narrative, inviting viewers to bring their own memories and interpretations to the work. For me, these paintings represented an early fascination with the expressive power of line, a theme that continues to inform my practice today. They explore how a simple mark can communicate what words often cannot, transforming writing into a visual language that exists beyond the boundaries of spoken text.
